How to Make Spicy Tiger Prawns

It’s very easy to make this delicious and fancy looking side dish that everyone would love to have. You can make them for dinner for family and it also works great for Barbeque parties. It requires just few ingredients and you can alter them according to your taste and preference.

To make this spicy Tiger prawns at home, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • Tiger Prawns – Try to use big ones for better taste.
  • Dried Red Chili – You can use mild ones for kids.
  • Garlic Clove – Goes very well with any seafood.
  • Onion – Just a little for adding thickness to the marinade.
  • Mayonnaise – Adds extra flavor to the dish.
  • Coriander leaves – This is a flavor enhancing herb.
  • Lemon Juice – This will add extra flavor to the prawns as well as make balance heat.
  • Smoked Paprika – Gives smokey color and flavor to the dish.
  • Salt – Adjust salt according to your taste.
  • Olive Oil – You can use other varieties of oil as well.

How To Make Spicy Tiger Prawns:

  1. Make butterfly cuts to open up prawns.  
  2. In a pan over medium heat add Olive oil and sauté Dried red chili’s, Garlic and onion for couple of minutes. Let cool slightly and then transfer into a grinder.
  3. Add Mayonnaise, Salt, Lemon juice and coriander leaves and grind into a paste.
  4. Apply on prawns and sprinkle some Smoked paprika on top. 
  5. Put Olive oil in the same pan and place the prawns marinade side down.
  6. Apply marinade to the top and sprinkle Paprika and sauté for 2-3 minutes or until cooked.

Storing Leftover Prawns

These tiger prawns are always fully finished in our home as they are everyone’s favorite. However, in many occasions there could leftover that that you can store for later consumption. You can store this cooked tiger prawns in an air tight container in the fridge for up t 2-3 days. You can also freeze them for later use in other recipes.

  1. Cut Bagels in halves.
  2. In a bowl put drained Tuna flakes or chunks and add Mayonnaise, Siracha, Mustard, chopped Spring Onions and Jalapeño and give a good mix to make a spread .
  3. Spread the delicious mixture on Bagel halves and place on the Air fryer basket.
  4. Top with choice of cheese; I have used a blend of 4 cheese.
  5. Add bagel seasoning or just Sesame & Nigella seeds for extra crunch.
  6. Air fry at 180 C for just 5 minutes and tasty healthy breakfast is ready.
  1. Pro tip: You could make the tuna spread and keep in an air tight container and in the morning just spread and air fry to save time for family.
  2. Pro tip: For busy mums and students, make them in advance and use reheat option on your Air fryer for a quick brunch or lunch.

In a food processor, put raw Prawns, Spring onions, Garlic cloves, Soy sauce and Sesame oil, grind everything together to make a thick sticky paste.

Transfer the mixture to a bowl.

2. Soften the Rice Paper Wrappers:

Fill a shallow dish or a large plate with some water.

Cut Rice papers in halves. You may also cut them after dipping in water.

Dip one rice paper wrapper into the water for about 5 seconds until it softens but still holds its shape. Place it on a clean surface.

3. Fill and Fold the Dumplings:

Place a spoonful of the prawn filling in the center of the softened rice paper wrapper.

Fold the bottom edge of the wrapper over the filling, then fold in the sides, and roll up tightly to enclose the filling. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.

4. Air Fry the Dumplings:

Lightly brush the air fryer basket with Sesame oil to prevent dumplings from sticking.

Arrange the prawn dumplings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not touching each other.

Lightly brush the tops of the dumplings with Sesame oil.

Air fry the dumplings at 180°C (360°F) for about 8-10 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

5. Serve and Enjoy:

Once done, carefully remove the prawn dumplings from the air fryer.

Serve hot with a dipping sauce of your choice, such as soy sauce mixed with Sesame oil, Freshly chopped red chili or Minced garlic.

In 10 minutes time or even less you can make this healthy seafood dinner for your family and kids will love them.

  1. Pro tip: Spray or brush a light coat of oil on the dumplings before placing them in the air fryer. This helps achieve a golden and crispy texture.
  2. Pro tip: Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. Arrange the dumplings in a single layer with a little space between each one to allow for proper air circulation.
  3. Pro tip: Do not dip rice papers in water for long as they will become soggy.

Storing Leftover dumplings

Storing rice paper dumplings properly is essential to maintain their texture and flavor. Here are steps on how to store rice paper dumplings:

Cool Completely: Allow the rice paper dumplings to cool completely to room temperature after cooking or assembling.

Avoid Moisture: Moisture can make the rice paper wrappers sticky and cause them to tear. Ensure that the dumplings are not touching each other during storage to prevent sticking.

Refrigeration: If you plan to consume the dumplings within a day or two, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Place a piece of parchment paper or wax paper between the layers of dumplings to prevent sticking.

Freezing: Rice paper dumplings do not do well freezing uncooked. However, you can freeze them after you air fry them. Arrange them in a single layer. Place them in the freezer until firm. Once frozen, transfer the dumplings to a freezer-safe bag or container. Frozen cooked dumplings can be stored for up to 1 month.

Reheating: To reheat refrigerated or frozen rice paper dumplings, you can steam them, microwave them briefly with a damp paper towel to prevent drying out, or air fry them again until heated through and crispy.

  • 250 g Prawns

HOW TO MAKE THESE SALMON CUCUMBER APPETISERS:

Ingredients

Smoked Salmon – 20 g

Cucucmber – 1

Cream Cheese – 2 Tbsp

Greek Yogurt – 2 tsp

Fresh Dill – 1 String

Lemon Zest – 1-2 tsp

Instructions

Cut Cucumber into 1/4 Inch slices.

Mix together Cream cheese and Greek yogurt and place in a piping bad with Star nozzle. 

Place a small slice of Smoked salmon on top of each cucumber disc.

Pipe in small amount of cream cheese filling on top. 

Garnish with fresh Dill and Lemon zest.

Prawns are my all time favourite. Do you know prawns are not fish; they are insects!! Don’t know if all the other insects are this tasty 😋. Prawns are such a great ingredient to use for cooking and specially for a quick snacks. They cook quickly and taste delicious. Prawn toasts or shrimp toasts are such a popular item in Chinese restaurants and take. In the UK, almost every Chinese or Thai restaurant or take away places offer these appetisers in their menu. Although it’s easily available in the menu, there is nothing like making your own at home. Specially if you are making for your kids you know exactly what is going in and what oil you are using. Most restaurants will reuse their deep frying oil which is so unhealthy. Where as at home you are always trying to give your family the best of the best.

Prawn Toast

Prawn toast is a classic Chinese appetiser. It’s a classic Dim sum dish which is small portions of different dishes or snacks. This crunchy springy appetiser is a favourite to kids and adults and is gone in a blink of an eye. Before I started making them at home, it was a must in my take away order. Many times we got disappointed with either too oily prawn toasts or thin dry ones. Restaurant kitchens are busy and often they prepare the dishes ahead of time and re-heat before serving them. As for homemade ones you surely will put your love to it and probably will make them fresh.

Prawn toasts make great appetisers for serving guests. These triangles looks so nice when served with little bit of dipping sauce. Although it doesn’t take much time making these appetisers, you can always make them in advance to serve to your guests. I always look for recipes that can be made ahead of time so that I can enjoy time with my guests rather than being in the kitchen even after my guests have arrived. Now these prawn toasts can be made in advance and you can just leave them in the refrigerator but wrapped or in an air tight container. Right before you want to serve, just fry them fresh. Ingredients

  • 4-5 Slices White Bread
  • 250 g Prawns
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/8 tsp Black pepper powder
  • 1 Egg White
  • 1 tsp Sesame Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Corn Starch
  • 1/4 Cup Sesame Seeds
  • Oil For frying

Instructions

  • Cut sides off Bread slices.
  • Clean, devein Shrimps and take off excess water
  • Put Shrimp, Salt, Black pepper powder, Egg white, Sesame oil, Corn starch in a food processor and run for around 30 seconds to make a paste.
  • Spread the paste into one side of the bread. Try to evenly distribute.
  • Coat in Sesame seeds.
  • Heat oil in a pan and in medium heat fry them. Fry top side first for 1 minute and then the other side for another minute.
  • Take out in kitchen towel lined plate and then cut into halves or quarters.

Top tips for making & serving them

  1. If possible fry them fresh.
  2. If you are serving them to a medium to big crowd and this is one of many snacks/appetisers, make 4 portions from 1 slice of bread.
  3. Use big prawns, they taste much better and juicy.
  4. Take off excess water from raw Prawns before making the mince. Excess water will make your spread runny and your toasts might break.
  5. When you apply prawn spread make sure you press and apply. That’s way you can ensure it sticks to the bread and will not fall off while frying.
  6. Chil them in the fridge for 10-15 minutes and then fry.
  7. Always fry seed side down first and then the other side.
  8. Oil temperature is crucial and you must keep it to medium low to medium. Prawn cooks very quickly and keeping the temperature low will ensure nice ones.

A spongy Prawn appetiser that takes a minute to combine and a minute to cook

Prawns are my all time favourite seafood. They taste great, cooks almost instantly and the sponginess is just to die for. I can’t say if I have ever refused to try any type of dish or appetiser made out of shrimp or prawns. One of my favourite prawn recipes is Prawn bhuna and that is so tasty to have with some warm rice. In my todays vlog I am sharing with you the recipe I came up with just recently.

Story behind this recipe

Just few weeks back I was making another dish with some quality Shrimps and I had just a little bit leftover. I was busy in making the recipe video and taking snaps for my blog and at the same time I was thinking of making dinner for my toddler. I was busy busy but I just didn’t want to throw away the shrimp paste. So I decided to put it in a piping bag for later use. After finishing all my videography and photography I was tired but the leftover shrimp paste did not skip from my mind. So I deep fry them using the same oil I used for my other seafood dish. And the result is a tasty Seafood appetiser that looks appealing.

How to serve these Appetisers

These Prawn appetisers make great snacks to serve to your guests. They can be offered on their own with some sauce. I personally like to serve them with some Thai sweet chili sauce and I make them at home. You may also serve them on a seafood platter and I can guarantee it will be all gone in no time. Their spongy texture makes them a fun snack for kids so you can either offer them as a snack at home or as a healthy item for their lunchbox.

Ingredients

  • 250 g Prawns

  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Sesame Oil

  • Oil For Deep Frying

Instructions

  • Devein Prawns and dab with kitchen towel to take out excess moisture.
  • Put Prawns, Egg white, Salt, Black pepper powder, Garlic powder, Sesame oil and Corn flour in food processor and run for around 1 minute.
  • Put mixture in piping bag and cut a hole.
  • Put oil in a pan and wait until it's medium hot.
  • Pipe 1 inch Shrimp paste into oil and cook for just 1 minute on all sides.
  • Take out in kitchen towel to drain excess oil.

Notes

  1. Make sure there is no extra water on the shrimp. Use a kitchen towel to take out extra moisture.
  2. Run food processor for around 1 minute to give the mixture some air and volume.
  3. If you do not like the strong flavour of Sesame oil, use some other oil.
  4. If oil is too hot your shrimp appetisers will burn and if it’s too low then they will absorb a lot of oil and when taken out of oil they will shrink.
