Pumpkin muffins always remind me of fall when the leaves starts to get vibrant colour and we start to look for our cosy light cardigans and jumpers. There are so many recipes for making Pumpkin muffins and you can top them up with a variety of delicious toppings. These Pumpkin muffins with Cream cheese swirls are however a keeper. It’s such a flavourful moist muffin recipe and makes a great veggie dessert option for kids at home.

About The Ingredients for making Pumpkin Muffins:
Flour: Regular plain flour is needed for the recipe. Unfortunately gluten free flour does not give the same result.
Pumpkin Puree: I have used 100% pure Pumpkin puree for the recipe. Canned puree works great as long as they are 100% pure.
Sugar: Both white and brown sugar is used in the recipe for balancing everything.
Baking Soda: This will help the batter to rise and also to create a dome on the top.
Pumpkin Spice: Pumpkin spice is a seasonal spice mix and hence not always available on supermarket shelves. Moreover, they are only available at big supermarket. That is why I have given the measurements on how you can make this spice blend yourself at home. Please scroll below for that recipe.
Vanilla Extract: Vanilla extract will enhance the flavour of the baked muffins. Always try to use quality Vanilla as it makes great difference.
Salt: Adding a little salt will help balance all the spices and flavours in the recipe.
Oil: I have used plain oil for the recipe. I would not recommend using a strong flavoured oil as it can be overpowering for the Pumpkin spiced muffins.
Cream cheese: Cream cheese swirls are used on the top to make it extra delicious. Make sure they are at room temperature.
How to Make Pumpkin Spice At Home:
If you don’t have Pumpkin Spice to hand you can use the measurements given below to make your own Pumpkin spice.
Ground Cinnamon – 4 tsp
Ground Ginger – 2 tsp
Ground Cloves – 1 tsp
Ground Nutmeg – 1/2 tsp
Ground Allspice (Optional) – 1/2 tsp
How to make Moist Pumpkin Muffins with cream cheese from scratch
Ingredients for making pumpkin muffins with cream cheese:
Flour – 100 g
Pumpkin Purée – 1 Cup
White Granulated Sugar – 1/2 Cup
Brown Sugar – 1/4 Cup
Baking Soda – 1/2 tsp
Pumpkin Spice – 1 & 1/2 tsp
Vanilla Extract – 2 tsp
Salt – 1/4 tsp
Egg – 1
Oil – 1/4 Cup
For Cream cheese swirl
Cream Cheese – 1/2 Cup
White Granulated Sugar – 2 Tbsp
Vanilla – 1 tsp
Egg Yolk – 1 small
Instructions for making pumpkin muffins with cream cheese:
First pre-heat your oven to 400 F (200 C). Next line muffin tray with some parchments papers. This recipe yields 9 muffins.
Now put Flour, Pumpkin spice, Baking soda and Salt in a bowl and combine.
After that put Pumpkin purée, White sugar, Brown sugar, Egg, Vanilla, oil in another bowl and whisk to combine.
And now mix dry and wet mixtures together and combine to create a batter.
In a separate bowl whisk cream cheese and then add Egg yolk, sugar and vanilla and whisk to make a paste.
Scoop pumpkin batter into muffin holes. Fill up up-to 2/3. And then put around 1 tablespoon of cream cheese mixture on top. Finally, swirl cream cheese mixture using a toothpick.
Now let’s bake them in preheated oven for 18 to 20 minutes.
Let the baked muffins cool down for five minutes and then transfer them into a cooling rack.

- 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 1 Egg
- 1/4 Cup Oil
Cream Cheese Swirl
- 1/2 Cup Cream Cheese
- 2 Tbsp White Granulated Sugar
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 Egg Yolk
Instructions
