I like to call it fancy salt because it could be so pricy. On the other hand making it at home just cost you fraction of the price and you get a lot of it. Although I am not a big fan of tangy food; I have never been. But adding this salt to my dishes just makes them so flavorful with a mild kick. They not only makes the food aromatic, it also helps them taste different.

It’s very easy to make Lemon or lime salt and it comes so handy. Almost everything you sprinkle it on just tastes better. Add it to your salad and it gives extra taste and flavour. One of my friends adds them to sour fruits and she verdicts it makes them taste different. Well, there could be so many experiments to get your hands on.

I like to make a big batch of Lemon salt and put it in cute jars. Sometimes when I go to a special someone’s house, someone I really care for, I grab a bottle and give as a homemade gift. It makes such a cute unique homemade edible gift.

How to Preserve This Flavored Salt:

It’s a handy sprinkler to make and keep. It’s not time consuming but you can still make and preserve. Usually salt is used for preservation of food so do not worry about preservation much. I like to use a sterilized jar for keeping my Lemon salt. On the bottom of the jar I put some rice grains to keep the salt dry.

HOW TO MAKE Lemon Salt:

Ingredients

1 Cup Fresh Lemon Juice

3 Tbsp Salt

Instructions

Squeeze juice from around 10 Lemons and sieve the juice to get rid of any seeds and bits.

Put Lemon juice and salt in a pan and over medium-high or high heat bring to a boil.

Now that it has come to boil and salt has dissolved, we need to bring back the granules by evaporating water.

When all water evaporates, take it out on a paper towel and leave to cool down. After 1 hour change the towel.

After 4-5 hours Lemon salt should be ready. Keep in a sterilised jar with some rice granules to keep salt fresh for longer.

Now that you have made gorgeous Lemon salt at home using just two ingredients, it’s time to preserve them for later use. Properly stored lemon salt can last for several months. The salt acts as a natural preservative for the lemon zest.
