These Rice crispy treats are so easy to make at home for spooky, fun parties. This works absolute great as Halloween treat. They are crunchy and so yummy. I bet once you make them in your kitchen for a Halloween trick or treat, you would want to make them again for special occasions. They looks super cool for both trick or treat and party food.

I have a pre-schooler at home and I attend loads of kids get togethers starting from Playgroups to mums and kids parties and so on. Kids of al ages are always munching something. They specially love their sweets. Sometimes it gets difficult to take their hands off nasty sweets full of sugar. These Rice crispy treats are great for small munching. The are full of Rice cereal with some Marshmallow. Having one of these brains will mean your child had only one Marshmallow and the rest is Butter and Rice cereal.

Ingredients

Butter: Make sure to use unsalted butter for the recipe. No need for room temperature butter.

Marshmallow: You can use all pink or a mixture of both.

Salt: Just a pinch of it creates a good balance.

Rice crispy cereal: Please use white ones and not the cocoa one.

Food Colour: This is optional but makes a lot of difference. Please use gel colour and never liquid one.

Top Tips for making no fail treats:

Whilst you can melt Marshmallows in the microwave, the double boiler method melts them evenly. Make sure to have it on simmer and stir occasionally.

Work quickly after the mixture is all done. They harden up quickly. Make sure you have all the utensils to hand for making the brain shapes.

Nicely oil the utencils that will come into contact with the mixture. Marshmallow once melts becomes sticky and a gentle rub of oil makes everything much easier.

Allow time to set.

Use sprinkles of red gel colour to make them look realistic. Using a brush gives a much nicer finish.

HOW TO MAKE Rice crispy Marshmallow Halloween treats:

Ingredients

Unsalted Butter – 30 g

Marshmallow – 1 Cup

Salt – 1/8 tsp – 50 g

Rice crispy – 2 Cups

Red gel food colour

Instructions

Place Butter and Marshmallow into a double boiler over gentle simmer. Once melted add salt.

Remove from heat and add Rice crispy cereal to it. Mix to combine everything. 

With an ice cream scoop or table spoon take some dough and form the brain shape. Use a butter knife to semi divide the middle section.

Apply Red food colour for final touches.

How to form the brain shapes:

Forming the brain shapes is easier than it appears. If done properly, they look just amazingly spooky. I would recommend using an ice cream scoop for taking the portions. It not only ensures same portions for nice finishing but also it helps you create a round shape.

Use spoons for shaping them. First flatten the dough and then shape them. Use the back of two table spoons to make both ends of the dough bit pointy; not very much though.

Use a butter knife’s back to slightly form a dent on the middle from top to bottom.
