About Churros
Churros are simply Choux pastry that are fried and then are rolled in Cinnamon sugar. They are very popular Spanish and Portuguese food and everyone loves them. They are delicious and just works great as a snacks on the go. I have heard many people eat them as their breakfast which is really cool.
I tried my first Churros from a shop at a carnival and I just loved it. It was warm and yummy. The only thing I didn’t like is the price. For the portion and the type of snack it seemed a bit pricy.
I love cooking and baking and whenever I come across new type of food, I have a tendency to look up for the recipe and give it a try at home. So I came back from the carnival and the same night I googled about Churros and the recipe. I tried few different ones and then came up with a combination that works perfect every time. Here I am sharing that recipe with you which gives me perfect Churros always and they taste much better than store bought one.

How to eat Churros:
Churros are delicious to eat on their own. Traditionally they are rolled in cinnamon sugar. Many people enjoy dipping them in chocolate sauce and that’s another great way of enjoying churros. I think it’s a great pair with cold ice cream. Just choose your flavour and top it up with some homemade Churros!
HOW TO MAKE Authentic Churros:
Ingredients
Water – 1 Cup
Unsalted Butter – 30 g
Sugar – 2 Tbsp
Salt – 1/8 tsp
Flour – 1 Cup
Egg – 1
Vanilla extract – 1 tsp
Oil – for frying
Coating:
Sugar – 1/4 Cup
Cinnamon Powder – 1/2 tsp
Instructions
Put Water, Butter, Sugar and Salt in a pan. Give it a stir and then turn the stove on at high.
When the mixture comes to a boil, turn the heat to low and then put flour on at once. Continuously stir. The dough will be lumpy in the beginning, but gradually it will all come together. When you see the dough coming off from the pan you will know it’s done.
Add Vanilla extract, Egg to the mixture and combine.
Put dough in a strong piping bag with a big star nozzle or any nozzle of your choice. Pipe your desired design. The classic one is straight and everyone just decides how long they like to do. I like to pipe them in a parchment paper so that it’s easier for me to lift and fry later.
Pop them in the fridge for 5 – 10 minutes. It really helps in flying them nicely.
Heat up oil in a pan. Make sure you use enough oil so that the Churros can frying nicely and they have enough room to rise.
Fry them until golden brown and make sure to roll them over from time to time for even frying. After frying, take them off oil and put in a kitchen towel lined plate.
Put Sugar and Cinnamon powder in a bowl. Mix together and the top coating is all ready. Roll each Churros in Cinnamon sugar or if you prefer just sugar then use just sugar. And you homemade Churros are all ready to be served and enjoyed.
Tips for making perfect Churros:
Remember to turn the heat to low before you put flour. After adding flour on the liquid stir continuously so that it doesn’t lump up.
Do not over mix the dough.
Put them in oil when it’s moderate hot; if it’s too hot then Churros will get burnt and not cook well from inside and if it’s not enough hot then they will absorb a lot of oil and might fall apart.
